Good for the Body, Better for the Mind

It may still be cold and windy outside but the warmer weather is just around the corner and there’ll be no better time to exercise outdoors. There are many reasons why working up a sweat in the great outdoors makes us feel good. Gorgeous views, sun on our faces and getting away from the hustle and bustle of a packed gym, to name a few.

Exercising outdoors provides all the physical benefits as indoor exercise does:

  • Increased blood flow
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Improved strength
  • Flexibility
  • Endurance
  • Plus many many more

Any form of exercise is beneficial to Mental Health as it allows us to free ourselves from the stress and strains of our busy work schedules, but if you are prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), exercising outside is even more beneficial. SAD is linked to poor concentration, lethargy, low moods and lack of Vitamin D so being outdoors surrounded by nature and more importantly, the boost of Vitamin D from exposure to sunlight could vastly improve your life.

Donna and the team fully recognise how important getting outdoors is and so have been developing our outdoor timetable which will launch very soon. Throughout the Spring and Summer months you’ll be able to enjoy early morning workouts on the beach with John, taking in the sunrise while giving your day a much needed boost! Morning exercise kick starts your metabolism and leaves you reaping the mental benefits of exercise all day…what’s not to love?

If Beach Boot Camp, Run Club, Metafit and Walking Groups sound good to you, keep your eyes peeled for our brand new Outdoor Timetable! But for now, view our recently updated Gym Class Timetable here.

How Do I Get Involved?

You don’t have to be physically fit, confident, or even look the part when you join our classes at YMCA Gym. You are joining a community of individuals who would love nothing more than to see you shine and enjoy yourself.

Download our Club Link app now via the App Store or Google Play to view our wide selection of inclusive classes, or download our newest class timetable.

An all inclusive YMCA Gym membership costs as little as £12.95 per month. Or classes are available on a Pay-As-You-Go basis. See website for details.

Hope and Hard hats for the New Year

Walking in through Reception, the once busy hub at the centre of our YMCA is currently boarded up, looking bleak and inundated with workman in hard hats and high Vis jackets. However, it’s for a very exciting reason… “It’s about enabling a community that helps people...

Run Panda, Run!
Run Panda, Run!

The Great North Run is an amazing fun-packed event that takes the North East by storm every year! People travel nationally and internationally to take part in the 13.1 mile race, work up a sweat and raise money for their chosen charities. This year, six of our YMCA...
