We’re excited to announce that physiotherapy specialist, Victoria Alfar of Sports Therapy at the Coast, has taken up residency at YMCA Gym, North Shields.

Victoria has practised physiotherapy both in the UK and across the world including; Dubai and Qatar, completing specialist courses and conferences in Canada and Australia. During her time in Qatar she specialised in treating knee injuries (specifically cruciate ligaments) whilst working at a FIFA accredited centre of excellence. She honed her skills whilst contributing to the treatment of elite athletes including professional footballer players from the top clubs across the world. After over a decade away from her home, she has now returned to North Shields, with her family, and is building up a healthy list of clients from the North Tyneside area.

Victoria is an advocate of a holistic approach to wellness. For her, treating the injury is only part of the process and she takes time to analyse the whole body, including patterns and quality of movement, work, lifestyle and leisure activities and postures, nutrition and psychology to fitness:

“I work with people from all walks of life, not just elite athletes, to help them live happy and pain free lives and to ensure that they can achieve their full potential. It’s great being back in the amongst the North Shields community – I love being at YMCA.”

With more and more people turning to Physiotherapy to help keep themselves fit and healthy (a prevention-is-better-than-cure approach) Victoria specialises in sports medicine, musculoskeletal and orthopaedic therapy and offers expertise in assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of an array of conditions including acute sports injuries, children going through adolescent growing pains, office and factory workers suffering with lower back or neck pain, people suffering from osteoarthritis who want to strengthen their muscles to reduce pain and improve mobility.

Donna Ayre, YMCA Gym Manager says:

“Having Victoria here at YMCA Gym is amazing for not only our gym members, but for the whole of the community. At YMCA we preach a whole body approach; considering diet and nutrition, healthy lifestyles and training as a form of strengthening. Victoria is of the same mindset. She values preventative conditioning to keep people fit and well, just like we do.”
