10 Months of Transformation

A dearly loved gym member joined YMCA Gym in January 2023 and her incredible journey has inspired us all. When she signed up, Mary had health conditions that restricted her from achieving some of the basic life tasks and asked for our assistance in helping her have a better quality of life.

Over the past 10 months, Mary has not only shed over 3 stone in weight but has also gained significant muscle mass, transforming her body and her mindset. Mary’s dedication to her fitness journey has not only resulted in remarkable physical changes but has also had a profound impact on her mental well-being. She radiates confidence and positivity, and her newfound strength has empowered her to step out of her comfort zone. From trying new classes to taking on new fitness challenges, Mary’s transformation has been nothing short of awe-inspiring.

What’s truly remarkable about Mary is her ability to uplift and motivate those around her. She has become a beacon of encouragement, spurring on other gym members to push their limits and achieve their goals. Her unwavering support and infectious enthusiasm have created a ripple effect within our gym community, inspiring others to embrace their own fitness journeys with determination and joy.

Mary’s journey is a testament to the incredible transformations that can occur when dedication, perseverance, and a supportive community come together. Early December, Cafe 1879 hosted YMCA Gym’s Annual Christmas Lunch where 29 of our members attended, enjoying an afternoon of celebrations and a delicious 3-course meal.

It may still be cold and windy outside but the warmer weather is just around the corner and there’ll be no better time to exercise outdoors. There are many reasons why working up a sweat in the great outdoors makes us feel good. Gorgeous views, sun on our faces and getting away from the hustle and bustle of a packed gym, to name a few.

As the New Year approaches, new January starters will come flooding through our gym doors. For some, it will be their first time stepping foot in a gym, for others it won’t be their first time restarting their fitness journey. As of 29th March 2021, outdoor exercise is permitted as part of the Governments Road map out of lockdown. With this in mind, YMCA Gym has launched a number of fun and engaging outdoor classes in North Shields.
